Advertising on the BBC

It’s happened, it really happened, I just can’t believe it. The BBC is now running ads on their web portal. Only to users outside the UK, but still.

Hummm it must be an Egor thing - I cannot see any ads on www.bbc.co.uk... :-)

One thing though is that BBC World have had ads on both their website and channel for years, and most of them are extremely boring.

And as usual there is help to get - get the RIP add on for Firefox and you can remove anoying material from websites.

I feel sorry for the Beeb, but let’s face it, it was going to happen. It is probably the only channel left in the world which does not run ads. French public TV abandoned its no ad policy at the end of the 80’s. I remember everybody was a bit pissed off at the time, but everybody also knew it meant less taxes…

On the other hand, the Beeb is mostly paid for by UK residents only (cable companies have to pay a fee to have it), so having to look at a few ads on their website is not going to annoy me too much.

Also there is the RIP plugin for FireFox which can remove them:-)
