Ingmar Bergman dies
Sad to read about such a legend passing away. One of the great European film directors, Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007). Rest in peace.

It’s about time that someone got the ball rolling and set up a non-profit organisation to ensure and promote a high level of front-end work. Some of the big names in the Netherlands have found their way on the guild’s membership list. Some, like Mirabeau, have made an almost miraculous transformation over the last couple of years in adopting web standards. I have doubts whether or not the other big names are up to par. But let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water.
Another one of those things that is simple and handmade. Just awesome work by Max Tyrie. Video’s like this is where our culture of all things web really shines. Big ideas and big gestures make way for some of the smaller, simpler things in life. Like a handmade video for a Modest Mouse video competition.
Safari is the third browser on the net, has been for a while now. My own site, the one you’re looking at now has Safari as the third browser also. However I don’t look at browsers that way. I’m looking forward to the day that I’ll only write for modern browsers. When breaking down the stats for modern browsers Safari is still third, but Internet Explorer 6 is forth.
Every now and then I see something that I’ve seen before but in a ever so slightly different way that makes me go, “oh, wow”.
I find it strange that while I have actively promoted CSS for almost a decade, HTML has rarely been my focus. Good clean semantic HTML always seemed to be a self evident truth. However, to my dismay I see that CSS is picking up and that HTML is not really improving. This has to change. So I’ve decided to roll up my sleeves to get my hands dirty as an invited expert in the W3C’s HTML Working Group. Now that I’ve been accepted they will definitely be hearing from me.
I’ve been reading, to my surprise, the positive reactions on resetting or rather zeroing CSS for crossbrowser conformity. I’ve had pretty much the opposite experience when I started writing resets years ago. A lot has changed since then so taking another look at the technique is certainly worth it. Especially when you consider the fact that by the end of 2008 we won’t need level A support for Internet Explorer 6. However, one must keep in mind that the inherent problems with resetting remain.
I’m happy with my new laptop, which is now almost four months old. I’m happy with the dual core Intel chip inside. I’m happy with the 3 GB of RAM I have installed. It’s fast (2.33 GHz), it’s sleek and it runs Window’s. I’ll just have to live with the crappy 6bit screen. Or maybe not…
It’s been very quite on the site for a while. Well, actually, it’s been much more than a while. My previous post was one year ago. A lot has happened since then. A new job, and then another and my girlfriend moved in.
Great pictures from Getty Images given the interaction treatment by designers. If you’ve got a minute “10 ways” is certainly worth your while. The poor site construction really lets the whole project down though.
