Web fonts are coming

It’s been a long time coming but Apple is working to include better font support for Safari. The ‘@font-face’ rule will replace sIFR by enabling the downloading of fonts to the browser. This marks the ongoing awareness of typography on the web. The W3C had better get their act together and finish up on CSS3, now more than ever. sIFR has made downloadable fonts a reality, this recent development doesn’t change that. However the quality will be easier to manage eventhough site authors still must decide how they should deal with licensing issues. Who will follow suite and will Microsoft once again fall behind?
